Habitat for Humanity Metro Maryland

Habitat for Humanity Metro Maryland (HFHMM) helps low-income families build strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter. Since its founding in 1982, HFHMM has helped nearly 1,000 individuals secure safe and decent housing.

Sandy Spring Bank Foundation served as a Lead House Sponsor in 2018, allowing HFHMM to purchase a vacant, distressed property in Prince George's County, Maryland.  The house was fully rehabbed and sold to an income qualified Habitat homeowner with a no profit 30-year mortgage. In addition to this financial support, Sandy Spring Bank employees also volunteered on the build site, helping to rehab the home and prepare it for the new owners.

HFHMM President and CEO John Paukstis said, “We value Sandy Spring Bank Foundation’s focus on community and its commitment to balance profit with purpose. Through our partnership, we can have an even greater impact by providing affordable housing to a hard-working, low-income family in our local community.”

With the stability that homeownership offers, homeowners can save more, invest in education, pursue new opportunities and gain better financial stability. The impact and rewards of home ownership to the family also benefit surrounding neighbors and the community at large through goodwill, stewardship, and economic investment into the community.
